Get the training you need to become a licensed EMT in this accelerated 10-week summer program.

Emergency medical services providers are the first to respond to emergency calls. In this program, develop the skills and knowledge necessary to assess and manage all types of injuries and acute illnesses, while providing safe and rapid transport to a medical facility. Learn about airway management, bleeding and shock, emergency childbirth and automated defibrillation.

Register for the EMT Program

View and register for upcoming sessions. Click the session title to view a detailed course schedule.

Please note, you must be at least 17 years old to take this class. Prospective certificate students do not need to complete an application for admission to WCTC.

Attend Program Expectation Session

Attend a mandatory program expectation session (selected during course registration).

Due on First Day of Class

Submit all mandatory health requirements through Viewpoint Screening.
Complete BLS Provider training or accepted equivalent.
Create an EMS E-licensing account with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

During the Program

Students in this program are expected to:

Adhere to the EMT attendance policy.
Attend two, four-hour clinical rotations at a healthcare facility (scheduled outside of class time).

After the EMT Program

Take the EMT National Registry Certification Exam. Skills testing can be completed at WCTC or any testing site. The written exam must be taken at a certified testing center.

After the Exam

Apply for the EMT State License. This licensure is required before being eligible to register in subsequent EMS licensure programs.

Potential Careers

If you have a positive attitude, a desire to help others and can act quickly during stressful situations, a career in emergency medicine may be for you. EMTs must have good social skills, and act with empathy and humility. Solid communication and leadership skills are crucial, as EMTs need to assess and manage different situations.

Career Salaries

$26,000 – $30,000 annually

Salary range estimates based on wages for related occupations in Waukesha County as reported by Economic Modeling Specialists International (EMSI). Individual wages may vary based on experience, industry, location and specific job requirements.

Participate in advanced-level clinical experiences, and gain skills in IV access and fluid therapy as well as administration of aspirin, 50 percent dextrose, Narcan, Atrovent, epinephrine, glucagon and nitroglycerin.
