“The passion and hard work of the players of WCTC Esports to play in front of the home crowd, defend their school, and bring home the championship shows the resilience and determination reflective of the ethos of WCTC.” -- Ian Sheeley
On Dec. 7-8, Waukesha County Technical College hosted the Wisconsin Esports State Championship, which included 36 Rocket League and 43 Valorant teams from colleges and universities throughout the state. Teams participated in Division 1 and Division 2 competitions, and both WCTC’s Valorant and Rocket League teams took first place in Division 1!
WCTC’s Valorant team includes students Aidan Lepianka, Owen Anderson, Martin Girga, Kareem Salem and Jonathan Sanchez, while WCTC’s Rocket League team consists of Tyler Morrison, Wesley Lidwin and Alexander Pettigrew.
“WCTC was very pleased to be chosen as the host site for WEC State Championship, said Ian Sheeley, WCTC esports coordinator. “The passion and hard work of the players of WCTC Esports to play in front of the home crowd, defend their school, and bring home the championship shows the resilience and determination reflective of the ethos of WCTC.”
Esports began at WCTC in September 2023 with the opening of the new gaming center, and according to Sheeley, the gaming has proven to be an asset to the College.
Beyond competitions and tournaments, the College has seen esports expand on campus through summer camps for middle and high school students and the addition of gaming courses for those students who are working toward a liberal arts transfer degree.
Congratulations to WCTC’s esports teams! Learn more.
