Classroom Attendance Policy

Main Content

All students are expected to attend classes on a regular, punctual basis. Students with extenuating circumstances may contact their instructor before class and discuss alternative options with instructor approval. In addition, each academic department and program area has developed its own attendance policy, which will be communicated to students by faculty during the first week of classes. Students are responsible for discussing absences with their instructors and completing makeup work.

Non-Attendance During the First Week of a Course

Attendance during the first week of a course is mandatory. Students who do not attend during the first week of the course will be dropped by the instructor. Instructors are required to submit an Instructor Drop form for students who do not attend during the first week. When instructors drop a student for non-attendance, the course will not be counted as an attempt and will not display on the student’s academic transcript.

Students who are dropped for non-attendance must also drop themselves through the proper administrative form during the course refund period to receive a refund. Refunds will be calculated based on the Wisconsin Technical College System Refund Policy. Students who do not submit the proper administrative form within the course refund period will be responsible for the tuition and fees associated with the course. To officially withdraw from or drop a course, please submit a drop/withdrawal form.

Class Absence for Co-curricular Activities

  • Absence from class will be allowed for participation in authorized field trips, conferences and other activities sanctioned by WCTC.
  • It is the student's responsibility to discuss the absence with the instructor prior to the activity. The responsibility for makeup work lies with the student.
