All Fire & EMS Courses

Restricted fire and EMS courses are not available for web/telephone registration. In many instances, sections are reserved for fire department members only, with priority granted to in-District fire departments. Reserve your seats here.

Registration for restricted courses begins on the following dates by reserving your seats here:

  • June 1 for fall courses
  • November 1 for spring courses
  • April 1 for summer courses

In-District fire departments receive priority registration two weeks prior to those dates.

503-720 Firefighter I Cert

This course meets the NFPA 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, training requirements for WTCS Firefighter I certification. (Students must also complete the Hazardous Materials Operations course to be eligible for WTCS Firefighter I certification testing.) Students are given the opportunity to learn, develop and practice the practical skills required to perform as a firefighter, while also receiving the didactic theory required to support those skills and related firefighting functions. This course extends past the entry-level courses to better prepare the student to function as a firefighter while also providing the necessary education and skills to be eligible for WTCS Firefighter I certification testing.

This course meets the NFPA 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications, training requirements for WTCS Firefighter II certification. This course meets the NFPA 1002, Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional Qualifications, Pumping Apparatus, educational requirements for WTCS Driver/Operator-Pumper certification. 531-407 Heartsaver First Aid

This course teaches first aid procedures for injuries, including bleeding control, bone, joint, and muscle injuries, burns, and specific injuries to the head, chest, abdomen, pelvis and spine. It also addresses sudden illnesses, including seizures, diabetic emergencies, poisoning, bites and stings, and heat and cold emergencies. These are integrated skills that you can learn in a minimum four hour course. The course instructor may adjust some details of the course to fit your particular setting and expectations. The fee includes a textbook and a two year certification card.

531-423 Heartsaver/1st Aid/CPR/AED

The Heartsaver First Aid program of the American Heart Association combines the Heartsaver AED and first aid course. Participants will learn to perform adult CPR; relieve a foreign body airway obstruction; use a barrier device during rescue breathing; use an automated external defibrillator (AED); and provide first aid for acute injuries and sudden illnesses. Through the use of watch then practice videos, participants receive concise, step by step instructions in these topics. Skill practice sessions afford plenty of time for hands on. The fee includes a textbook and a two year certification card.

Basic Life Support (BLS) curriculum and testing will include one and two rescuer adult CPR, adult and pediatric obstructed airway, use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and pediatric CPR. This module includes the use of barrier devices.
