442-301A Basic Shielded Met Arc I

In order to develop entry-level skills as a welder, the learner uses the shielded metal-arc process, flat and vertical down positions, welding on thin (16 gauge) and medium (1/4 inch plate) thickness steel, single and multipass using alternating and direct current welding machines, and covered electrodes (6013 and 7014). The learner gains an understanding of arc welding fundamentals, welding with safety, arc welding machines and electrode classifications and selections.
