306-617 Mosaic Tile Art

Students will create mosaic designs using the French Art of pique assiette (also known as quilted plates, memoryware or shard art). First-time students will start out by creating a mosaic tile design on a terra cotta pot (supplies for this piece are included in the tuition). Students will then create another piece of their choice (at their expense); i.e., vase, framed mirror, backsplash, coffee or end table top, tray, mailbox, wall art, etc. For the second piece, students can use found objects such as broken pieces of china, stained glass, tile and/or stones. Instructor is a local artist.
