WCTC partners with The American College of Financial Services

Financial services specialty designations now offered

Waukesha County Technical College is partnering with The American College of Financial Services, a leader in education and training for financial services and insurance professionals, to offer classes for Chartered Financial Consultant® (ChFC®), Chartered Life Underwriter® (CLU®), and Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®).

  • ChFC®: Focuses on key financial planning disciplines, including insurance, income taxation, retirement planning, investments and estate planning to meet the needs of individuals, professionals and small business owners.
  • CLU®: Provides in-depth information on the insurance needs of individuals, business owners and professional clients.
  • CFP®: Provides an overview of the financial planning process, including the responsibilities and roles of a financial planner along with analytical tools used in financial decision-making.

How the partnership works

Students interested in earning their ChFC®, CLU® or CFP® designation can take a select number of classes – both required and elective, depending on the designation – at WCTC.

  • Courses are taught by WCTC instructors and industry professionals with extensive knowledge of the financial and insurance industries.
  • Multiple designations can be completed at the same time. By completing all six courses at WCTC, all courses qualify for the ChFC®, five for the CLU® and four for the CFP®.
  • Courses are sequenced each semester. If you can commit to only one morning per week, you can complete three courses in a semester while still only taking one course at a time. Commit to two days per week and you can complete all six courses in a single semester.
  • Classes meet face-to-face once per week for six weeks during convenient morning hours (7:30 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.) in the fall and spring semesters. All courses are taught on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings and flipped each semester. Courses on Tuesday mornings in the fall semester are taught on Wednesday mornings in the spring semester and vice versa.

To earn the credential, students must complete their three remaining courses through The American College via self-study and online learning. While many courses are taken at WCTC, The American College awards the credential.
