Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill
Chapter 33 Post 9/11 GI Bill - Active Duty program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. Generally, benefits are payable for 15 years following your release from active duty. Eligibility criteria can be found on the GI Bill Web site.
How do I apply for Chapter 33 Benefits?
- Complete VA Form 22-1990, Application for Educational Benefits which can be completed online at Veterans Online Application (VONAPP). Please submit a copy of the application to WCTC’s Veteran’s Certifying Official once completed online. If you have previously received VA educational benefits, you will need to complete VA Form 22-1995, Request for Change of Program or Place of Training Form which can be completed online at Veterans Online Application (VONAPP). Please submit a copy of the application to WCTC's Veteran's Certifying Official once completed online.
- Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to WCTC's Veteran's Certifying Official.
- Submit a copy of your DD-214 to WCTC's Veteran's Certifying Official.
- Complete and submit a VA Education Benefit Enrollment Certification Form or it can be obtained from the Veteran/Military Benefits desk in C-019. This must be done every semester if you wish to have us certify your benefits for the semester.
Payment Information
Tuition & fees payment (paid directly to the school) not to exceed the tuition & fees at the most expensive state Institution of Higher Learning (IHL). For the 2009-2010 Academic year, the tuition amount paid is $663/credit prorated based on eligibility. Veterans Administration will also pay laptop fee for full-time students prorated based on eligibility.
Monthly housing allowance based on the Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) for an E-5 with dependents. This amount is $1251/month for the 2009 calendar year. Students greater than 50% enrolled per term will be eligible for the full monthly housing allowance. Students enrolled for 50% or less will not receive a housing allowance.
Annual book stipend of $1,000 paid at $41.67/credit up to 24 credits for the academic year.
You may also receive a one-time rural benefit payment of $500.00 if you reside in a county with 6 persons or less per square mile (as determined by the most recent decennial census) and:
- either physically relocate at least 500 miles to attend an educational institution or
- travel by air to physically attend an educational institution if no other land-based transportation exists.
