How You'll Learn

On Campus

Bakers prepare items such as breads, pastries, muffins and other items for general sale or specialty orders. Gain hands-on practice in state-of-the-art baking labs, while focusing on ingredients, techniques and production skills. Develop management skills and expand techniques of production, cost and staff control in the operation of a bakeshop.

How To Apply

Apply online and pay the $30 application fee.
Submit a copy of one of the following to demonstrate your reading, writing and math skills:
- High school GPA of 2.60 or above. Transcript must include completed coursework through the 11th grade.*
- ACT, ACCUPLACER® or GED - 2014 Series (165 or higher).*
- Prior college coursework may meet this requirement in whole or in part. Courses must be in the specific area(s), and you must have earned a grade of C or better (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) in the courses.*
- If none of the above apply, sign up for the ACCUPLACER® placement test.

Potential Careers

If you have good time management, planning and organizational skills, a career in baking and pastry might be right for you. Bakers need to be creative and precise as proper measurements are critical to the preparation of baked goods. Additionally, they start their workday in the early morning hours to ensure bakery is ready for the day ahead.

Baking and Pastry Production

Focus on baking concepts, principles and techniques, and devote more than 500 hours to lab course time gaining hands-on practice.
